Harvest Monday 12/10/12

Things are starting to get down right cold around here. I know to some of you that sounds funny, 48 degrees and we think it's cold. But seeing as how it was in the 90's just a few weeks ago, we're cold! I finally cracked under the pressure of the little guy, and started picking Blood oranges, below is a picture of a Blood next to a Bearss lime. Around here everyone gets excited for the citrus, but the littlest farmer loves him some blood orange

Rain from the begining of the week, 1 inch is a lot for the first week of December

Radishes are coming up. Right after this picture was taken these little babies were gone.

Lots of Cilantro and lettuce. I planted 6 different kinds of lettuce this year, they all seem to be doing well.

How pretty. Your radishes look like radishes! (Mine look... weird.) And those blood oranges are gorgeous. Do they have the same flavor as regular oranges?

48 degrees is definitely cold for there, but that doesn't seem to have affected your lovely harvest!

I am envious of your cilantro and as for your weather I'd be threatening hibernation at 48degrees!

A little introduction.

We moved in on December 18th 2009, we are a 1/4 mile from a major southern california freeway, but are trying to make the urban homestead thing work. We have spent a lot of time getting things back in order. We have 22 fruit trees, hence the name, and a small plot set aside for a garden. We have 4 chickens: 2 Americauna, 1 Jersey Giant, 1 Barred Rock, and one 8 month old puppy named Maggie. With the help of the boys, and my very patient wife, I am trying to farm this little plot of land. We'll see...
